A decade ago, every Sri Lankan dreamt of living in a peaceful society, without fear and suspicion.
War heroes had to sacrifice their lives in the 30-year war while many others were disabled for life, all for fulfilling the dream every Sri Lankan.
Derana Aruna programme stepped out of its boundaries to fulfil the dream of a war hero who fell victim to the war and was disabled.
Corporal Vajira Pushpakumara, who joined the Special Forces Regiment of Sri Lanka Army in 2008, fought in the final humanitarian operation Mutur, Putumattalan and Nandikadal against the LTTE cadres.
However, he suffered a severe sniper gunshot wound to his shoulder in late 2009.
Corporal Pushpakumara survived the attack, yet fell victim to the gunshot wound for the rest of his life.
Since becoming a journalist had been one of the dreams Corporal Pushpakumara, Derana Aruna team decided to give him the opportunity to conduct the programme last morning (18) in commemoration of the passing of a decade since the brutal 30-year war was defeated.
