President Maithripala Sirisena said the current free, fair and peaceful Presidential election campaigns reflect the strength of democracy in Sri Lanka.
He said that this great democratic characteristic was restored due to broad political transformation that had taken place in the country, he said.
President Sirisena said this after accepting credentials from three new envoys to Sri Lanka at the President’s House in Colombo today (November 4).
The Envoys who presented credentials are:
- Rabie Narsh - Ambassador of the Republic of Lebanon
- Major General (Retd) Chris Eze - High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
- Denis Chaibi - Ambassador of the European Union
While the High Commissioner of Nigeria and Ambassador of Lebanon are based in New Delhi, EU Ambassador is based in Colombo.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tilak Marapana and Cabinet Secretary Sumith Abeysinghe and Additional Secretary Esala Weerakoon were also present on this occasion.
