President Maithripala Sirisena must bear the responsibility for the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s ruination, claims former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.

She emphasized this while addressing the convention of the ‘Organization to Protect the SLFP’ held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium this evening (05).

The event was held under the patronage of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike, who pledged support to New Democratic Front (NDF) presidential front-runner Minister Sajith Premadasa recently.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the United National Party (UNP) including Ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Rajitha Senaratne attending this convention drew much attention.

The former President, speaking on the manifestos launched by the presidential front-runners, stated that SLPP’s candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s manifesto is just filled with ‘beautiful’ words whereas NDF candidate Sajith Premadasa has proposed a ‘quite successful plan’.

Bandaranaike said she regrets that President Maithripala Sirisena made a decision to remain neutral in this presidential election, to temporarily resigning from the position of the SLFP’s chairman and to unlawfully appoint an acting chairman until the end of the election.

“General Secretary of the SLFP, who has switched parties for seven times, is now claiming that he would remove us from the party,” says Bandaranaike. It takes at least 6-12 months to lawfully remove the party’s membership.

Meanwhile, the attention of SLFP’s Central Committee has been drawn towards taking disciplinary action against its members who took part in the convention of the Organization to Protect the SLFP today, the General Secretary of SLFP Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara has stated.
