AG tells Speaker not to release forensic audit report on bond scam to MPs

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya told the Parliament today that the Attorney General has informed him not to disclose the Forensics Audit Report on the Central Bank bond scam to all MPs.

 

Speaker of Parliament announced today (07) that the Forensic Audit report done on the recommendation of the Presidential Commission appointed to investigate and report on the bond scam of the Central Bank cannot be disclosed to the members of parliament as per the advice provided him by the Attorney General. 

 

Given that the legal proceedings on the bond issue of CBL have already commenced, and given that further legal proceedings may be required, the Speaker stated that the Attorney General has advised him in writing to abstain from disclosing the aforesaid particulars to all the Members of Parliament. 

 

The Speaker said that the opinion of the Attorney General was consulted as it was requested by the House on the 3rd of January to make the Forensic Audit reports available to the Members of Parliament.

 

The full statement of the Speaker is as follows”

 

“I wish to announce to the House that I have consulted the opinion of the Attorney General regarding the request made by the House on the 03rf of January 2020 to make available the Forensic Audit report done on the recommendation of the Presidential Commission appointed to investigate and report on the bond scam of CBL to the meme era of Parliament.” 

 

“Given that the legal proceedings on the bond issue of CBL have already commenced, and given that further legal proceedings may be required, it was advised to abstain from disclosing the aforesaid report to the house by the Attorney General.”

 

The opposition led by the United National Party (UNP) last Friday called on the Speaker to release the forensic audit report on the bond scam.

 

Several UNP parliamentarians urged the Speaker to table the document in the House without further delay. 

 

Parliament convened at 1.00 p.m. today while the adjournment debate on the policy statement made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa last week is currently underway.
