
The United States of America says that the focus of its relations with Sri Lanka has been on the prevention of terrorism.
Jonathan Henick, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Bureau for South & Central Asian Affairs at US Department of State, mentioned this to the media at the American Center yesterday (08).
He stated that the terrorist threats in the region were so strong that the issue could not be avoided so soon.
Pointing out that the US has a deep and close relationship with Sri Lanka, Henick stated that Sri Lanka, as the oldest democracy in Asia, is one of the most important partners of the US.
He said the United States is cooperating with other countries in the region, including Sri Lanka, on matters of coastal security, free travel.
