Over 100,000 Sri Lankans currently live in Italy, where several regions in the north and east of the country were quarantined.

Italy invoked a mandatory quarantine in the Lombardy region and 14 provinces where at least 16 million people live.

This decision was taken as a measure to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Reportedly, a significant amount of Sri Lankans remain in these quarantined regions.

Acting Sri Lanka Ambassador to Italy Sisira Seneviratne stated that the Embassy is keeping a watchful eye on Sri Lankans living in the area.
