Accepting nominations for the General Election 2020 will commence starting from today (12), says the Election Commission.
The process will continue until 12.00 pm on the next Thursday (March 14).
In the meantime, independent groups that are contesting the election are allowed to make their deposits until 12.00 pm on March 18.
According to the Election Commission, approximately 35 independent groups have placed their deposits for the General Election so far
Meanwhile, the Police stated that special security measures will be in place during the time period given for accepting nominations. Police personnel will be deployed to control the traffic and to direct the public at all District Secretariats.
Acting Inspector General of Police has instructed police officers to take strict legal actions against those who violate election laws.
Meanwhile, casting of postal votes for the General Election 2020 is scheduled to be take place on the 6th, 8th and 9th of April.
