Over 99kg of heroin seized from Negombo

The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) and Special Task Force (STF) yesterday (12) seized a haul of heroin weighing 99kg 478g, in Negombo.

The stock of heroin was disguised as potatoes inside a container from Pakistan.

Acting on a tip-off, the officers of PNB and STF had given chase to a container, a lorry and a car in Lunuwila area in Wennappuwa. Upon inspecting the container, the officers had uncovered the heroin haul disguised as potatoes.

Seven suspects including a Pakistani national have been placed under arrest over the incident.
 
The PNB arrested three individuals attached to the company that had imported the stock of potatoes and the person who claimed the stock. These suspects were identified as residents of Negombo, Yatiyana, Minuwangoda and Wennappuwa areas.

The suspects will be produced before Marawila Magistrate’s Court today (13).

The PNB is conducting further investigations into the incident.
