Only emergency cases to be treated at Eye & Dental Hospitals in Colombo

March 19, 2020   04:11 pm

Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe says that only emergency cases will be treated at the Eye Hospital and Dental Hospital in Colombo starting from tomorrow (20).

He stated this addressing the special media conference held by the National Operation Centre for the Prevention of Covid-19 this evening (19).

Speaking of the reasons for limiting services at these hospitals, Dr. Jasinghe added that sometimes dental patients have to undergo Aerosol-Generating Procedures (AGPs) which stimulate coughing and promote the generation of aerosols.

He also remarked that the Colombo East Base Hospital (CEBH) in Mulleriyawa will be arranged to treat Covid-19 patients, while preparations at Welikanda Hospital to treat coronavirus-infected persons have been completed.

During the press conference, Dr. Jasinghe confirmed that 9 more positive cases of Covid-19 have been identified in Sri Lanka, bringing the total to 59.
