‘Red’ alert issued for severe lightning

Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur in the evening or night, says the Department of Meteorology.
People living in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-western and Uva provinces and in Ampara and Mannar districts have been urged to be vigilant in this regard.
Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in the above areas.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
