Approximately, thirteen reports on PCR tests conducted so far are erroneous, the according to the Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists.
The chairman of the Association, Ravi Kumudesh stated the President has been informed on the matter in writing.
Several persons who initially tested positive for the virus were later confirmed to be negative in repeat tests at the Health Ministry’s laboratories, he said further.
These include two residents of Rajagiriya and Kolonnawa, a nurse of Colombo National Hospital and a 52-year-old woman from Modara.
He added that 8 reports from Sri Jayewardenepura University’s laboratory, 4 from Colombo University’s laboratory and one from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) laboratory have turned out to be inaccurate.
Mr. Kumudesh stated that such erroneous reports have not been issued by the laboratories under the purview of the Health Ministry.
Ada Derana, in the meantime, spoke to Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, the Chief Consultant Physician at the Infectious Disease Institute, on the persons who were initially identified as COVID-19 positive later testing negative for the virus.
He noted that the changes in the test reports were based on the activity of the virus.
