Heavy rainfall expected during next few days

The Department of Meteorology says the showery condition over the island is likely to enhance to some extent, due to the low level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka during next few days.

Showers or thundershowers are expected over most parts of the island particularly in the evening or night, it said issuing an advisory.

Heavy rainfall above 100 mm can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Southern, Western and Eastern provinces.

Temporary localized strong winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and severe lightning can be expected during thundershowers.

Due to the active cloudiness in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Batticaloa via Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota, the possibility for heavy showers/thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the above given shallow and deep sea areas is high.

Naval and fishing communities are also requested to be vigilant in this regards.
