June 16, 2020 02:28 pm
Commuters now may make complaints against buses that transport passengers exceeding the number of seats available, stated the National Transport Commission (NTC).
Director-General of NTC Nilan Miranda stated that the relevant complaints can be made to the Commission’s hotline: 1955.
The government has imposed a new rule that buses may not transport passengers over the number of seats available due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, many reports of buses violating this regulation have been received by the NTC, said Miranda.
Meanwhile, a special meeting is to be held today (16) with regard to the resumption of school transport services once the schools reopen.
Minister of Transport Mahinda Amaraweera and Minister of Education Dullas Alahapperuma are to chair the meeting.
