The passenger train from Badulla to Colombo Fort has derailed earlier this afternoon (23) disrupting railway services on the Upcountry Railway Line.

The derailment had occurred between the Pattipola and Ambewela railways stations at around 1.30 pm today.

The observation compartment 1008 passenger train had derailed in this manner, stated the Central Province Superintendent of Railways.

He said that measures were taken to detach the derailed compartment, transfer its passengers to other compartments, and complete the trip.

Further, passenger and freight trains from Colombo Fort to Badulla will only travel up to the Nanu Oya Railway Station until the derailed compartment and the railway line is restored.
