AG to file indictments on Patali & ex-Welikada HQI

Attorney General Dappula de Livera has decided to file indictments on former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and former Welikada Headquarter Inspector (HQI) Sudath Asmadala, separately.

This is with regard to the alleged hit-and-run incident which took place back in 2016, where the vehicle in which the former Megapolis and Western Province Development Minister was travelling in collided against a motorcycle, causing life-threatening injuries to its rider.

The case was taken up today (24), Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris conveyed the Attorney General’s decision to Colombo Additional Magistrate Kanchana Neranjani Silva.

The officers of the Colombo Crimes Division, presenting the submissions to the court, stated that investigations into the incident have been concluded.

The investigation reports have been directed to the Department of the Attorney General to seek advice, the CCD officers said further.

Accordingly, the Deputy Solicitor General informed the court that the Attorney General would file indictments on the duo separately.

The Additional Magistrate subsequently ordered the Deputy Solicitor General to communicate the progress of investigations when the case is taken up again on December 02.
