
Off spinner Mohammad Hafeez’s career-best 4-41 helped Pakistan hold Sri Lanka to 255-8 in the first of a five-match one-day international series on Saturday.
Dinesh Chandimal hit an unbeaten 65 to lift Sri Lanka to a competitive score despite losing wickets at crucial moments at Dambulla Stadium.
Hafeez dismissed openers Kusal Perera (26) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (38), along with Upul Tharanga (20) and Thisara Perera (1), to record his best ODI bowling which surpassed 3-17 against Bangladesh 12 years ago.
Chandimal’s 14th one-day half century came off 68 deliveries, including a six and five boundaries.
Seamer Rahat Ali also took two wickets for Pakistan.
