Kraigg Brathwaite has single-handedly kept the West Indies in the second Test match against Sri Lanka, taking 6-29 with the ball as the hosts slumped to 206 all out after lunch on day three. 

That set the visitors a target of 244 to win. 22-year-old Braithwaite, who is not known for his bowling prowess, took three of the four wickets to fall in the afternoon session as Sri Lanka collapsed from 6-165 at lunch to be all out for 206. 

The West Indies need 244 to record their first Test win on Sri Lankan soil with two and a half days’ play remaining. Brathwaite’s figures read six for 29 off 11.3 overs. 

After lunch Rangana Herath, who added 30 runs for the seventh wicket with captain Angelo Mathews, was caught by Jermaine Blackwood at slip for 17 off the bowling of Brathwaite. 

Dilruwan Perera, who hit a six off Brathwaite, was caught two balls later by Kemar Roach at deep mid wicket trying to hit a repeat six. Skipper Mathews tried a reverse sweep and fell to the combination of Blackwood-Brathwaite for the third time in the innings. The Sri Lankan captain made 46. 

Last man Nuwan Pradeep was caught first ball by Blackwood off Brathwaite leaving Dhammika Prasad not out on one.

Jerome Taylor and Jomel Warrican finished with two wickets each. 

The West Indies need to win the second Test if they are to level the two-match series after Sri Lanka won the first game at Galle by an innings.
