The Presidential Commission of Inquiry investigating the Easter Sunday attacks has ordered its police unit to take custody of former SIS Director Nilantha Jayawardena’s persona mobile phone.
Former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS) has testified before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) on multiple occasions with regard to bomb attacks on 21 April 2019.
A phone conversation held between the former SIS chief and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando after the Easter attacks, which had been submitted to the commission on a previous occasion by the former, was played during an open session of the PCoI.
Following this, the commission had ordered that the personal mobile phone and laptop computer used by the former SIS Director at the time of the Easter Sunday attacks be handed over to the police unit of the commission.
The commission also ordered to send the mobile phone, the laptop and the CD containing the phone recording to the Government Analyst’s Department in order to determine whether the recording had been edited.
As per the directive of the commission, the former SIS Director’s personal mobile phone was handed over to the commission today by his wife.
