A patient, who had been receiving treatment at the Ragama Hospital on the suspicion of having contracted COVID-19, has escaped from the hospital, Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana stated.
Reportedly, the escaped patient is an older male residing in the Peliyagoda area.
A photograph of the patient was released to the media by police a short while ago.
DIG Ajith Rohana stated while identities of COVID-19 patients are not publicized as a principle, a dangerous situation might occur if the escaped patient is not taken into police custody.
Another separate cluster may form from the Brandix cluster with this incident, he pointed out.
DIG Ajith Rohana emphasized that legal action will be taken under criminal and quarantine laws against those who conceal information related to COVID-19.
Action will also be taken against persons who attempt to hide away persons with COVID-19 symptoms as well, he said.
Any house, building or immovable property where COVID-19 patients are found hiding will be confiscated, he added.
