The employees of the Minuwangoda apparel factory or their contacts, who have not reported themselves to health authorities, are requested to contact the Sri Lanka Army for obtaining relevant facilities for quarantining.

Commander of Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva accordingly urged them to contact the following telephone number without delay: 011 3456548

The Army Chief, speaking on the re-emergence of novel coronavirus cases in the country during Ada Derana 24’s “Aluth Parlimenthuwa” programme, said the Minuwangoda cluster could have been the result of a mistake on the part of one or more arrivals from a foreign country.

He ruled out the possibility of an apparel factory worker contracting the virus from a Covid-19 positive person in the community.

Further, the general public has been requested to provide any information on such persons to the aforementioned contact number.

In the meantime, the Police said 24 rendezvous points have been introduced for the employees of the relevant apparel factory to report themselves until 10.00 am this morning (08). The employees who report to these meeting points will accordingly be directed to quarantine procedure.

Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi meanwhile stressed that steps are being taken to strengthen the existing quarantine law. Joining Ada Derana 24’s “Aluth Parlimenthuwa” programme, she said a gazette notification on this will be published soon.
