Horana Base Hospital clarifies COVID-19 rumors

October 13, 2020   09:29 am

Only a nurse at the Horana Base Hospital has tested positive for the novel coronavirus so far, stated the Superintendant of the Hospital Dr. Ayanthi Jayawardena.

Following the recent identification of a COVID-19 infected nurse at the Horana Hospital, varying reports on the incident have been circulating among the public.

However, these are reports and rumors are false fabrications, stated Dr. Jayawardena.

“We have learned that some media outlets have issued news stories that 05 COVID-19 cases, including 03 doctors, have been detected among the staff at the Horana Base Hospital. I would like to say that all that information is false propaganda. The truth is that only one nurse at the Horana Base Hospital is currently infected COVID-19.

As soon as the nurse tested positive, we identified the first contacts. Accordingly, 41 persons have been identified as first responders and been subjected to PCR testing. All the test reports have come out to be negative. As such, no other infected person has been found at the Horana Base Hospital.”
