The government has decided to impose quarantine curfew in five police areas in Colombo District with immediate effect.
Thereby, Mattakkuliya, Modara, Wellampitiya, Bloemendhal and Grandpass will be under quarantine curfew, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The move came after taking into account the rise in Covid-19 positive cases in the aforementioned police areas and localities as well as the recommendations of the Director General of Health, he said further.
Persons living in these areas have been requested to restrict their movements and interactions.
Vehicles will meanwhile be permitted to travel through the curfew-imposed police areas, however, they will not be allowed to make a stop, the Police Spokesman added.
Commander of Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, speaking on the matter, said essential workers can use their service ID as a curfew pass.
