Afternoon thundershowers expected in parts of the island

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Uva, Eastern, North-Central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Matale districts after 2.00 pm.

Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm can be expected at some places, particularly in Uva province and in Ampara district.

The public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Showers may occur at a few places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.


Sea areas:

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Mullaitivu to Batticaloa via Trincomalee in the evening or night.

Winds will be North-easterly in the sea areas extending from Kankesanturai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa and winds will be North-westerly to Westerly in the other sea areas around the island.

Wind speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph in the sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

The sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota can be fairly rough at times.
