Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda Covid-19 cluster tops 5,000 cases

Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 figures surged yet again as 293 more persons were tested positive for the virus today (27).
Among them are 291 close contacts of previously-identified patients and 02 persons who are currently at quarantine centres.
Thereby, the total number of positive cases registered by the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster hit 5,232.
With the new development, Sri Lanka has confirmed 8,706 novel coronavirus infections to date.
According to statistics, 4,043 of the confirmed patients have made complete recoveries from the virus.
The Epidemiology Unit says 4,646 active cases are still receiving medical treatment at selected hospitals across the island.
Covid-19 death toll meanwhile went up to 19 earlier today, as three infected persons including a 19-year-old fell victim to the virus.
Sri Lanka witnessed the highest daily count of Covid-19 cases on the 23rd of October with a record total of 866 fresh positive cases. The second-highest was recorded on the 6th of October with 739 infections.
