Nearly 67,000 people are currently undergoing the self-quarantine process throughout the island, says Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.
While they belong to 25,000 families, most of them are from the Colombo and Gampaha Districts, he added.
“It is reported that 8,747 in the Gampaha District and 5,500 from the Colombo District are currently under self-quarantine.”
DIG Rohana said that the quarantine process is constantly monitored by health authorities and police.
“If a person who is under self-quarantine leaves their house, or if someone else enters a house that us undergoing quarantine, it will be considered an offense.
In such a case, it is possible to take legal action against them under the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance.”
