A total of 556 persons who had left the Western Province before curfew in defiance of instructions have been placed under quarantine at their current locations, stated the Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana.

“As per the reports we received this morning, the number [of individuals who had left the province] has risen to 556. Areas such as Kalkudah and Pasikudah in Batticaloa have the highest number of reports from Ampara and Tangalle while there are reports from Diyatalawa, Nuwara Eliya, and Jaffna as well.

Such persons are quarantined in those places on the instructions of the health authorities in the relevant areas. If anyone is coming back, we can identify them when they enter Western Province.”

Meanwhile, the quarantine curfew imposed on the Western Province was extended until 5.00 am on November 09.

The curfew on the province, which was imposed on October 29, was scheduled to be lifted at 5.00 am tomorrow (November 02).
