A team of senior officials from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been appointed to investigate the Brandix COVID-19 cluster.
The appointment has been made in compliance with the Attorney General’s directions on the matter.
The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has informed the Attorney General with this regard, the Coordinating Officer of the Attorney General State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said.
Reportedly, the team of officials will be carrying out the investigations under the supervision of the Deputy IGP.
On October 27, the Attorney General instructed the Acting IGP in writing to appoint a team of investigators comprising experienced, senior police officers to probe the risks posed by the Brandix coronavirus cluster. However, upon noticing a delay in action, the Attorney General, on November 05, directed the Acting IGP to brief him immediately on the investigating team appointed and called for a list of names of the investigators appointed to carry out the probe.
