A group of inmates at the Welikada Remand Prison has launched a protest on top of the prison roof, states the Department of Prisons.
Reportedly, the protesting inmates are under remand custody over drug-related offenses.
The protestors are demanding that they be granted bail, according to Commissioner of Prison (Administration) Chandana Ekanayake.
Nearly 10 inmates have launched the protest, he added.
