Majority of yesterday’s Covid-19 cases from Colombo District

Sri Lanka witnessed another uptick in its Covid-19 figures yesterday (26) as 559 persons were tested positive for the virus.

 

Colombo District reported the highest number of coronavirus infections, which amounted to 253. The region has been leading the daily cases count consecutively.

 

Gampaha District confirmed 65 new infections, while Kalutara District followed with 35, according to the National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

 

New infections have been detected from 09 other districts as well: Ampara (31), Nuwara-Eliya (09), Kegalle (07), Matale (06), Kandy (04), Anuradhapura (04), Puttalam (03), Kurunegala (02) and Matara (01).

 

The Department of Government Information said 06 arrivals – one seafarer, three from Turkey, Maldives and UAE, and 02 from India – are also among the newly-identified patients.

 

Meanwhile, total Covid-19 cases registered by the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster reached 18,487 yesterday. Reports revealed that 12,437 of them have made complete recoveries so far. However, 89 linked to the cluster have fallen victim to the virus.

 

Sri Lanka has reported 22,028 coronavirus cases since its first patient was detected in March this year.

 

Health Ministry data showed that 15,815 of them have been discharged from hospitals upon returning to health.

 

The country has also seen 99 Covid-19 related deaths so far. As per reports, 6,113 active cases are still under medical care.
