Over 2,000 COVID-19 cases detected within prisons

The number of coronavirus cases reported from the prisons has surpassed 2,000 cases, stated the Department of Prisons.
The Department says that 2,051 cases of COVID-19 infections have been detected so far.
Reportedly, 91 among them are prison officials.
However, a total of 31 prison officials and 562 inmates have recovered from the virus to date.
Meanwhile, all inmates released due to overcrowding in prisons will be subjected to a PCR test or a rapid antigen test, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said.
