Dayasiri Jayasekara tests COVID-19 positive

State Minister of Batik, Handloom Fabrics and Local Apparel Products Dayasiri Jayasekara has tested positive for COVID-19, Ada Derana learns.
Due to several days of fever, the State Minister had referred himself to a PCR test which confirmed that he has contracted the virus.
State Minister Jayasekara had attended the religious observances held at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) headquarters on the 1st of January. Reportedly, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and former ministers who had represented the Western Provincial Council had attended the event.
He is the first lawmaker in the country to test positive for novel coronavirus.
According to reports, the State Minister is currently under medical care at the hotel-turned-quarantine centre in Hikkaduwa.
