The body of a 23-year-old female, who was trapped after her home at Devanagala in Mawanella was buried in an earth slip this morning (June 05), has been recovered, says the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
However, her father (57), mother (56) and brother (29) are still caught under the debris, reports revealed.
Troops of Sri Lanka Army and residents of the area are currently engaged in a joint operation to rescue the missing family members.
The adverse weather conditions caused by torrential rains in the south-western part of the island have been wreaking havoc in many areas for the past few days.
Several individuals are still reported missing and four persons including a 17-year-old girl have died so far.
According to the DMC, Algama area in Kegalle has recorded the highest rainfall of 197.5mm yesterday (June 04).
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology warned of heavy rains above 100 mm in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces today.
