Govt. to impose price controls on rice and sugar

Government will take necessary steps to impose price controls on rice and sugar from tomorrow (September 02), says State Minister of Co-operative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna.
Addressing a media briefing today (Sep. 01), he explained that the government intends provide essential products, especially rice and sugar, to the consumers at reasonable prices.
Speaking further, the state minister said the large volumes of sugar seized stashed away in warehouses will be sold through Sathosa and Co-operative outlets.
In the meantime, one kilogram of brown sugar will be sold for Rs. 130 through these outlets, he added. The new price is effective from today.
