Corporal arrested over Mattakkuliya murder

A corporal of the Sri Lanka Army has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of an individual in the Mattakkuliya area.

Reportedly, the victim has been identified as the husband of a Grama Niladhari Officer in Mattakkuliya.

Preliminary Police reports confirmed that one Corporal attached to an Army camp in the Mattakkuliya area, who is suspected to have maintained contact with the victim’s family has been implicated in the murder of this person allegedly with the support of a few more suspects, who have been identified by the Police at Mattakkuliya.

The Commander of the Army on hearing of the incident instructed relevant Army authorities to immediately take strict disciplinary action against any Army personnel if found guilty in accordance with the zero-tolerance policy of the organization against criminal acts.

Following an investigation by the military police on the instructions of Army Commander General Shavendra Silva, the corporal in question has been arrested and handed over to the police for further investigations.
