Railway workers begin trade union action

Several railway trade unions have commenced a strike with immediate effect, Sri Lanka Railways says.

Reportedly, railway guards and locomotive drivers have also joined the trade union action.

Meanwhile, a total of 22 train journeys scheduled for today (July 01) have also been cancelled due to the lack of staff members. It was reported that the majority of employees of the railway department have not reported to work today.
