One person injured in Yakkalamulla shooting dies

A shooting incident that took place in the Yakkalamulla area this afternoon (Oct 19) has left one person dead and two other individuals injured including a 04-year-old child.

 

Two persons who had arrived on a motorcycle opened fire at a cinnamon workplace within a house in the Karuwalagala area of the Yakkalamulla police division before fleeing. The suspects have also robbed a motorcycle, according to police.

 

Following the shooting, the 34-year-old victim has succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, whilst the two other injured, including the child, are receiving treatment at Matara and Karapitiya Hospitals.

 

It has been uncovered that the deceased person has been released on bail by the Elpitiya Magistrate’s Court over charges of aiding and abetting an alleged incident where a person was shot dead inside a bus in Elpitiya Police division, police stated.

 

He was identified as a resident of the Kuda Uragaha area in Aandagala. Two other injured are said to be the father (30) and son (04) who are residing in Karuwalagala.

 

The dead body has been placed in the mortuary of Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, while Yakkalamulla police have initiated further investigations into the incident.
