JVP is against Govt’s disregard for human rights: Tilvin

If the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) supports the Government at the current juncture, it will be tantamount to supporting its anti human rights actions, says the party General Secretary Tilvin Silva.

It is 13 months since the war ended. If the Government is unable to uphold the human rights of the masses even after this long period, then it is a serious problem which the Government has to take the responsibility, said Mr. Silva speaking to Adaderana correspondent Chaturanga Karunanayake at the JVP headquarters in Pelawatte this morning (June 27).

However the JVP is firmly against any foreign intervention in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs, Mr. Silva said.

Asked why the JVP which once helped the Rajapaksa Government does not do so now, Tilvin Silva said that if the JVP stands by the Government now, it will be like condoning the government’s brazen violations of human rights and its riding roughshod over the masses. “This is the main reason that we do not support the Government,” he added.
