The vehicle of the businessman whose body was recovered in the swimming pool of a house under construction in Pelawatte yesterday (Feb. 02) has been found at a residence in Negombo.

The couple believed to have brought the vehicle to Negombo has reportedly left the country, according to Ada Derana correspondent.

The businessman, who was reported missing since January 30, was found dead at a house under construction in Pelawatte last evening.

The body of the 50-year-old, identified as a popular clothing store owner named Roshan Wanninayake, was reportedly discovered in the swimming pool of the deceased’s three-storied house, which is under construction at Pelawatte, Thalangama.

The sister of the deceased had lodged a complaint with the Wellampitiya Police on 01 February, claiming that her brother had not returned home since January 30.

She told the police several telephone calls to her brother went unanswered at around 7.00 p.m. The mobile phone of the businessman had been disconnected after he rang her back at around 7.29 p.m. that evening.

After filing a complaint with the Wellampitiya Police, the family members including the sister had inspected his under-construction house in Pelawatta where they discovered his body.

A magisterial inquest has been launched into the death. Further investigations are being conducted by the Nugegoda Crime Unit on the directives of the OIC of the Thalangama Police.

The police are probing several blood stains found near the swimming pool in order to determine whether the death can be ruled as a murder.

Based on the findings of preliminary investigations, the police suspect that the body of the businessman, who was a resident of Kiththampahuwa area in Wellampitiya, was dropped into the swimming pool after he was assaulted to death.

It is also reported that four of his credit cards have gone missing from his wallet. The police found that these credit cards have been used to book five flight tickets to Indonesia and to purchase goods worth at least Rs. 500,000 from a store at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
