Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh in T20 World Cup

Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets in their T20 World Cup Super 12 Group 1 match on Sunday in Sharjah.

 

Invited to bat, Bangladesh put on board a competitive 171 for four against Sri Lanka.  

 

Opener Mohammad Naim top-scored for Bangladesh with his 62-run knock while Mushfiqur Rahim contributed unbeaten 57 runs.

 

For Sri Lanka, Chamika Karunaratne, Binura Fernando and Lahiru Kumara took a wicket apiece.

 

Chasing a target of 172 to win, a terrific partnership of 86 between Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa helped Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets with seven balls to spare.

 

Asalanka top scored with 80* runs while Rajapaksa helped out with a half century. 

 

Both batsmen were dropped by Liton Das, after Sri Lanka had a stutter in the middle overs, losing 3 wickets for 8 runs.

 

After a 69-run partnership between Charith Asalanka and Pathum Nissanka, Sri Lanka’s lost three successive wickets.
