First stock of imported eggs to reach Sri Lanka this weekend

The first consignment of imported eggs is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka this weekend.

The shipment containing 02 million eggs has been procured by Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation (STC).

Accordingly, the consignment will reach the island this weekend, after departing India tomorrow (Feb. 24).

In the meantime, it is reported that the special commodity levy imposed on imported eggs has been revised.

The Finance Ministry mentioned that the levy per egg was reduced from Rs. 50 to Rs. 1 for a period of three months.

The revised levy is effective from February 21.
