Two persons are reported dead after a vehicle collided with a train in the Koggala area today (16 March).

Accordingly, the motor vehicle collided with a train at a level crossing between Koggala and Talpe along the coastal line.

Accordingly, the motor vehicle collided with a train at a level crossing between Koggala and Talpe along the coastal line.

The train had been plying from Colombo to Beliatta, when the driver of the car had allegedly recklessly driven over the level crossing, causing the collision.

Police have revealed that the accident had taken place at the Magalthota level crossing in the Habaraduwa police division.

The deceased have been identified as a 35-year-old male and his 80-year-old grandmother, our correspondent confirmed, adding that they were residents of the Ahangama area.

The bodies have been placed in the morgue of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, while further investigations into the incident are underway by the Habaraduwa Police.
