The Foreign Employment Bureau (SLBFE) has arrested a South Korean national residing in Kottawa area for defrauding LKR 25 million through a foreign employment scam.

After receiving a complaint about the fraudulent activities of the suspect, the SLBFE’s investigation officers, along with Ada Derana’s investigative program “Ukussa” jointly launched a raid to apprehend him.

The undercover SLBFE officers and the “Ukussa” team had visited the suspect’s residence in Kottawa.

According to his interpreter, the suspect has obtained LKR 2.5 million from each person on the promise of employment opportunities in South Korea, with LKR 500,000 being charged as a payment in advance.

Upon searching the house, the investigators found the documents belonging to more than 50 youths defrauded by the South Korean national.

After being produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court, the suspect was placed behind bars on remand until May 29.
