June 13, 2023   11:55 pm

Turkish Airlines, the flag carrier of Turkey, has decided to launch direct flights between Istanbul and Colombo starting from October 2023.

That being so, the airline will cease operating flights between Turkey and Sri Lanka via Malé, the Maldivian capital, as it has been doing for the past 10 years.

The launch of direct flights between Istanbul and Colombo will allow passengers from the island nation to easily travel to 129 countries from the Turkish capital via short-haul flights and short connection time.

It is reported that is Turkish Airlines seeing a growth in the number of reservations made by European tourists for the months of November and December this year, induced by the launch of direct flights.

A discussion in this regard was held between the chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL) P.A. Chandrasiri and Sri Lanka’s Country Director for Turkish Airlines, Fatih Bozkurt on Monday (June 12).
