Prices of MOP fertilizer reduced

The government on Friday (July 14) announced a price reduction of Rs. 1,000 for a 50kg sack of Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertilizer.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said the price slash will remain effective from Saturday (July 15).

Thereby, the revised price of a 50kg-sack of MOP stands at Rs. 14,000.

His remarks came during the District Development Committee meeting held at Polonnaruwa District Secretariat this morning.

The lawmaker pointed out that the government had slashed MOP prices from Rs. 22,000 to Rs. 19,500 before further bringing down the rates by Rs 4,500 at the beginning of the Yala cultivation season. The current price of a 50kg-sack of MOP fertilizer sits at Rs. 15,000.
