Sri Lanka Customs have detected a consignment of various narcotics, including 2,000 ecstasy pills, worth Rs. 70 million, which had reportedly arrived in parcels from the United States and Netherlands.
Accordingly, 2000 ecstasy pills, four kilograms of Kush cannabis, 297 grams of magic mushrooms (psilocybin mushrooms) and chocolates laced with narcotics were seized by the Customs officials, and is reportedly the largest raid in its history.
The parcels had been sent to addresses in the Colombo, Maharagama and Piliyandala areas nearly a month ago, however, remained unclaimed at a private courier company in Seeduwa, Sri Lanka Customs reported.
Thus, the Customs officials had visited the site today, and upon inspection of the parcels in question, had detected the narcotics.
Meanwhile, investigations have also revealed that the recipient addresses used for the parcels were fake.
On that account, further investigations pertaining to the matter will be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), Sri Lanka Customs said.
