Train services remain disrupted as railway strike continues

October 5, 2023   07:00 am

Several office trains are experiencing delays and cancellations this morning (Oct. 04) due to the unanticipated strike by railway under-guards.

It was reported that railway under-guards had resorted to a strike yesterday by reporting sick leave.

An assault of an under-guard by a security guard at the Maligawatta railway yard is said to be the reason behind this sudden trade union action.

Accordingly, the commuters were afflicted as they were left stranded at railway stations due to train delays and cancellations.

Against this backdrop, security forces personnel had been deployed to railway stations last evening to maintain peace and security. However, tense situations were reported as passengers were infuriated by the trade union action.
