‘Red’ landslide early warnings issued for 3 districts extended

As downpours continue to batter southwestern areas in the country due to the active monsoon conditions, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has extended the ‘Red’ (Level 3) early landslide warning issued for several areas in three districts – Galle, Matara and Kalutara.

Accordingly, a ‘Red’ warning is in place for the following areas until 03.00 p.m. tomorrow (Oct. 09):

Galle District: Galle Four Gravets, Elpitiya, Imaduwa, Nagoda and Yakkalamulla Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSDs) and surrounding areas
Kalutara District: Ingiriya, Walallawita and Mathugama DSDs and surrounding areas
Matara District: Akuressa, Pitabeddara and Hakmana DSDs and surrounding areas

Meanwhile, a Level 2 (Amber) put in place for several areas in the Badulla, Galle, Hambantota, Kalutara, Kegalle, Matara and Ratnapura districts is as follows:

Badulla: Haputhale DSDs and surrounding areas
Galle: Thawalama, Akmeemana, Neluwa, Bope Poddala, Baddegama, Niyagama and Ambalangoda DSDs and surrounding areas
Hambantota: Walasmulla and Katuwana DSDs and surrounding areas
Kalutara: Dodangoda, Bulathsinhala and Palindanuwara DSDs and surrounding areas
Kegalle: Deraniyagala, Dehiowita, Ruwanwella and Yatiyanthota DSDs and surrounding areas
Matara: Matara Four Gravets, Welipitiya, Athuraliya, Kirinda Puhulwella, Pasgoda, Mulatiyana, Kamburupitiya, Malimbada, Thihagoda and Kotapola DSDs and surrounding areas
Ratnapura: Kalawana, Ratnapura, Kuruwita, Eheliyagoda and Elapatha DSDs and surrounding areas

Meanwhile, a Level 1 (Yellow) warning was issued for the following areas:

Badulla: Haldummulla and Bandarawela
Hambantota: Okewela and Beliatta
Kalutara: Agalawatta, Kaluthara and Beruwala
Kegalle: Kegalle and Bulathkohupitiya
Ratnapura: Imbulpe, Godakawela, Kahawatta, Openayake, Nivithigala, Kiriella, Ayagama, Pelmadulla, Weligepola and Kolonna
Gampaha: Mirigama
Colombo: Seethawaka and Padukka
