Suspect nabbed after 2 housemaids found murdered in Matara

Two women who were employed as housemaids at a residence in the Brown’s Hill area of Matara have been found murdered, police said.

The owner of the house where they were employed at, had gone outside at the time and upon returning home she had observed that the two maids were not in the house, and therefore had searched for them together with the neighbors. 

The bodies of the two women were then discovered inside the bathroom used by them, police revealed.

On further inspection of the house, it has been uncovered that 12 non-gold bangles, 02 gold necklaces, 01 golden spoon and 39 foreign currency coins were stolen from a cupboard inside the house.

The deceased women have been identified to be aged 67 and 70 years.

However, Matara Police, which initiated investigations regarding the incident, has apprehended a suspect in relation to the incident.

The arrested suspect is a 25-year-old resident of the Thudawa area, according to police.

Police stated that the jewellery stolen from the house in question was found in the possession of the arrested suspect.
