Fairly heavy showers expected in parts of the island

The Department of Meteorology says atmospheric conditions are favorable for afternoon thunderstorms in Eastern, Central, North-Central and Northern provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Eastern, Uva, Central, Northern and North-central provinces and in Kurunegala district during the evening or night. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places.

Several spells of showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces and in Puttalam district.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas around the island.

Winds will be southerly and speed will be 20-30 kmph.

Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Pottuvil to Batticaloa.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
