The Department of Irrigation has extended the flood warnings issued to Nilwala and Gin river basins for another 24 hours ending at 9.15 a.m. on Friday (13).

Accordingly, the Irrigation Department further predicts that the flood water levels of the lower river valley situated in Akuressa, Malimbada, Thihagoda, Matara and Kamburupitiya Divisional Secretariat Division areas would slightly increase again.

However there is no threat of overflowing BR 05 bund (Gal bund) again owing to the rainfall received yet, the department added.

In addition, although the flood situation prevailing in the lower valley of the Gin River basin is on a gradually decreasing trend, the warning mentioned in the flood warning message No. 01 issued for the Gin River basin has also been extended as the effects of the flood are still witnessed in some areas.

The Irrigation Department has advised the residents in the areas mentioned above and vehicle drivers running through those areas to pay high attention in this regard. Disaster Management Authorities have been urged to take adequate precautions in this regard.
